Chloe Cheese at her exhibition

Many BiG illustrators will be familiar with the illustrative work of Chloe Cheese, who's vibrant and decorative work characterised many prestigious 80s and 90s publications and campaigns. More recently she has produced illustrations for children's books and widely exhibits both her paintings and prints. The Emma Mason Gallery has a glorious selection of original prints by Chloe alongside prints by her father Bernard. Chloe comes from a prestigious family of illustrator/printmakers as her father and mother were both established artists; Chloe's mother Sheila Robinson was a print tutor at the Royal College of Art. She grew up in Great Bardfield, Essex which was also home to artists Edward Bawden and Michael Rothenstein.

Her father Bernard's work is illustrative and fun, depicting jolly summer scenes with folks 'beetling' around engaged in various activities. Both share a fabulous palette and colour sense underlined by a beautiful sense of design and balance. On the private view day Chloe was at the gallery all day to meet visitors and talk about her work - and to share an array of cheesy nibbles provided by Emma (yes, really, there was cheese at Cheese & Cheese!). After admiring her work for many years it was a thrill to meet Chloe on such a lovely, summery day.

So, give yourself a treat and call by the gallery at 3 Cornfield Terrace, Eastbourne, BN21 4NN. Cheese & Cheese, the exhibition runs from 3 - 24 July and the gallery is open Thursday, Friday and Saturday 10 am - 5 pm. Check out the gallery at www.emmamason.co.uk
