Secret 7

The time has come to make 700 more Secret 7’’ masterpieces and explore how a set of seven tracks are interpreted by hundreds of creatives from around the world. The result will be an exhibition and sale in April of 700 one-of-a-kind records.

Our maiden year was overwhelming in every sense. Thousands of designs were submitted, people flew in from around Europe to see the exhibition, queued to get inside when they went on sale and we ended up raising an incredible £33,500. If you missed it this is what it looked like.

This year our tracks are Elton John - Bennie & The Jets, HAIM - Better Off, Jessie Ware - Still Love Me, Laura Marling - The Beast, Nas - The Don, Nick Drake - Rider On The Wheel & Public Enemy - Harder Than You Think.

On January 7th 2013, with the support of Talenthouse, the opportunity to design a sleeve will be opened up worldwide to contemporary artists and designers to create their own visual interpretation of the seven tracks.

All 700 one-of-a-kind vinyl covers will feature in the London gallery space of the UK’s
independent creative agency, Mother, in April 2013. On Record Store Day - 20th April
visitors are able to take a bit of the exhibition away with them as all of the unique vinyl
will be available to purchase. However, none of the buyers will know who created the sleeve, which song it's for, until they have parted with their cash - the secret lies within.

This year every penny profited is going to youth charity ART AGAINST KNIVES, to help fund creative initiatives around London.

Making ART AGAINST KNIVES the charity of choice this year was an easy decision. On top of the money and awareness we generate this year we will ensure that every aspect of the project provides an opportunity for the young people that they work with. From helping to design the website through to apprenticeships and work experience opportunities, we will provide valuable experience in a variety of creative roles.

SECRET 7’’

Secret 7’’ is a project combining music and art, all done for a good cause. Our vision was to
fundraise a bit differently. Create a positive, worthwhile and fun experience for both designers and art fans. From giving the opportunity to a budding designer to produce a sleeve for Florence + The Machine, to having their work sit amongst work by a hero of theirs like David Shrigley in our exhibition or owning one of 100 one-of-a-kind records of The Cure’s Friday I’m In Love.

ART AGAINST KNIVES

ART AGAINST KNIVES works across London to provide creative opportunities designed by young people for young people and support local communities to gain the resources they need to create positive spaces for those most at risk of gang culture. Art Against Knives has created a network between existing organisations working to reduce knife crime. They are currently working with the police, existing youth providers and similar organisations across London to both raise awareness and help encourage positive interaction between young people and their local communities. In the last year they worked with over 500 young people to help them access education employment and training, whilst providing them with a platform to express the local issues that affect them and communicate their perspective on solutions.
